2004-05 Season Highlights

Buenos Frederno scores the Lego Cup OT winner in game 7.

  • The LA Ocean are sold and re-located north as the Vancouver Killer Whales.
  • Early in the year the defending champion Blazers struggle, ending the first half in last place.
  • With extra help from rookie Nathan Barker, Joe Murdock turns in his best season yet, scoring 60 goals in 30 games.
  • In January, Comets goaltender Scott Moroson breaks his leg in a game against the Blazers, ending his season. He is replaced by rookie Daniel Boivre.
  • An early January contest between the Blazers and Warriors gets ugly when a full-scale bench-clearing brawl breaks out.
  • The Dallas Wilderness finish atop the West Division, while the Montreal Warriors win the East. Both teams earn first round byes.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Comets upset the Freezers for the second year in a row thanks to brilliant goaltending from Dany Boivre, while the Bulls defeat the Killer Whales in 6.
  • In the Division Finals, the Comets continue their impressive run, eliminating the Warriors in 7 games, while the Bulls upset the Wilderness in 7 games.
  • The Bulls takes a 3-1 lead in the finals against New York before the Comets storm back in games 5 and 6 to force game 7.
  • Veteran forward Randy McAllen scores the overtime winner for the Comets in game 7, giving the Comets their first Lego Cup in only their second season. They are the fastest expansion franchise ever to win a Lego Cup.
