2006-07 Season Highlights

  • After four seasons apart, the SHL and LHL are finally reunited as an agreement is reached to merge the two leagues back together.
  • The league is set up with three divisions, the SHL Division, the LHL East Division, and the LHL West Division. The top team in each division will make the playoffs as well as three "wildcard" teams.
  • The Chicago Mets and the Philadelphia Flames both adjust to the new league with ease, finishing near the top of the standings.
  • Several veteran LHLers including the Warriors' Joni Kita and the Comets' Braydon McPhearson make controversial comments about the supposedly smaller and less physical SHL teams.
  • In December, the two greatest players in the league, Vincent Domphoots and Joe Murdock, fight eachother for the first time ever.
  • Another legendary tilt takes place in February when the Halifax Giants visit the Toronto Freezers as Sean MacDonald and Gary Johnson battle for over 3 minutes.
  • An ugly incident occurs in March when Joni Kita cross-checks Joe Murdock in the head, giving him a concussion that would eventually threaten his career.
  • The Chicago Mets, Dallas Wilderness, and Toronto Freezers win their divisions, while the New York Comets, Halifax Giants, and Philadelphia Flames take the wildcard positions. The Mets and Wilderness each earn a first-round bye as the league's top teams.
  • The Montreal Warriors miss the playoffs for the first time in their history just one year after winning the Lego Cup. the Bulls, Killer Whales, Blazers, and Rage also miss the playoffs.
  • In the first round the Mets easily handle the Flames in 5, while the Freezers need 7 games to dispatch the surprising Comets.
  • In the Semifinals, the Mets win a tough 7-games series against the Giants.
  • Joe Murdock takes a hard hit in the Comets series and is forced to sit out the Freezers semifinal series against the Wilderness with concussion-like symptoms.
  • The Wilderness sweep the Murdock-less Freezers in 4 straight.
  • In the finals, the Wilderness quickly take a 3-1 series lead.
  • The Mets play desperate hockey in games 5 & 6 to force the series to game 7.
  • In game 7 in Dallas, Mets forward Ben Orlick stuns the Wilderness in overtime to give the Mets their first Lego Cup.
