2008-09 Season Highlights


Jason Ferland and the Dallas Wilderness could not
intimidate the magical Vancouver Killer Whales in the 2009 playoffs.
  • The Lego Hockey League and SHL once again split up.
  • after a career season with the Freezers in 2007-08, Scott McDonald signs a 10-year, $15 million contract with the Boston Blazers.
  • The Warriors' Zdeno Sukerash misses the remainder of the season after suffering a serious neck injury in only his 3rd game.
  • Freezers forward Darren Reid enjoys another strong year with 18 goals in 20 games.
  • Joe Murdock once again leads the league in scoring by a longshot with 32 goals and 57 points.
  • The Boston Blazers' playoff drought reaches 5 seasons.
  • The Freezers finish 1st overall in the standings for the first time since 2003.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Killer Whales upset the Dallas Wilderness in 5 games, while the  Comets.
  • In the League Semifinals, the Killer Whales continue their impressive cinderella run by sweeping the Bulls in 4 straight, while the Freezers easily sweep the Comets.
  • In the Finals, the Freezers quickly take a 3-0 series lead.
  • Down 3-0 going into game 4, the Killer Whales overcome a 2-0 3rd period deficit to win the game and bring the series to 3-1.
  • The Whales win games 5 and 6 as well, forcing the finals to 7 games.
  • The Killer Whale's magic finally runs out as the Freezers bury them 3-0 in game 7 to win the Lego Cup for the second straight year.
