2010-11 Season Highlights


  • Longtime New York captain Buenos Frederno is traded to the Celtic Warriors.
  • Joe Murdock becomes only the second player in league history to score 500 goals.
  • Dave Westover, after a 3-year retirement, returns to the Dallas Wilderness.
  • Warriors All-Star defenseman Corey Clark suffers a career-ending leg injury in a December game against the Wilderness.
  • The Toronto Freezer's Darren Reid, in his first full season back from a concussion, scores 100 goals.
  • The Freezers finish first overall, earning a first round bye.
  • The Vancouver Killer Whales play poorly down the stretch, costing them a playoff spot.
  • The Dallas Wilderness take top spot in the West Division on the last day of the season.
  • The first round of the playoffs feature two big upsets as the New York Comets defeat the Montreal Warriors in 5, while the LA Admirals shock the Bulls in 7.
  • In the Semifinals, the Freezers sweep the Comets while the Wilderness knock out the Admirals in 5.
  • In game 1 of the Finals, Nathan Barker's two goals lead the Freezers in a comeback win over the Wilderness.
  • In game 2, the Freezers once again come back, this time from a 4-0 deficit, to take a 2-0 series lead.
  • After taking game 3 6-4, the Freezers finally complete the sweep, winning their 4th Lego Cup and their 3rd in 4 years.

2009-10 Season Highlights

Cedric The Bull Hoists the Lego Cup.
  • The LHL expands to 8 teams with the addition of the LA Admirals.
  • The Montreal Warriors start the season 11-0 before finally losing to the Comets in early November.
  • Killer Whale's enforcer Oliver Klein is suspended 15 games for attacking a fan in Montreal.
  • The Freezers's Darren Reid finally returns to action with 3 games remaining after missing most of the season with a concussion suffered in the 2009 finals.
  • The Toronto Freezers endure a very disappointing season, finishing in 3rd place in the East Division.
  • The New York Comets return to the post-season after defeating the Boston Blazers in a tie-breaker game.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Bulls defeat the Wilderness in 5, while the Freezers knock off the Comets in 6. 
  • In the semifinals, the Warriors beat the Freezers in 6, while the Bulls defeat the Killer Whales in 6.
  • The Warriors dominate the Calgary Bulls in the Lego Cup Finals, taking a 3-0 series lead.
  • In game 4 of the finals, Brad Royal beats Bulls goaltender Mark Davis on a breakaway in overtime, giving the Warriors their 4th Leago Cup.

2008-09 Season Highlights


Jason Ferland and the Dallas Wilderness could not
intimidate the magical Vancouver Killer Whales in the 2009 playoffs.
  • The Lego Hockey League and SHL once again split up.
  • after a career season with the Freezers in 2007-08, Scott McDonald signs a 10-year, $15 million contract with the Boston Blazers.
  • The Warriors' Zdeno Sukerash misses the remainder of the season after suffering a serious neck injury in only his 3rd game.
  • Freezers forward Darren Reid enjoys another strong year with 18 goals in 20 games.
  • Joe Murdock once again leads the league in scoring by a longshot with 32 goals and 57 points.
  • The Boston Blazers' playoff drought reaches 5 seasons.
  • The Freezers finish 1st overall in the standings for the first time since 2003.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Killer Whales upset the Dallas Wilderness in 5 games, while the  Comets.
  • In the League Semifinals, the Killer Whales continue their impressive cinderella run by sweeping the Bulls in 4 straight, while the Freezers easily sweep the Comets.
  • In the Finals, the Freezers quickly take a 3-0 series lead.
  • Down 3-0 going into game 4, the Killer Whales overcome a 2-0 3rd period deficit to win the game and bring the series to 3-1.
  • The Whales win games 5 and 6 as well, forcing the finals to 7 games.
  • The Killer Whale's magic finally runs out as the Freezers bury them 3-0 in game 7 to win the Lego Cup for the second straight year.

2007-08 Season Highlights


  • The three division alignment is abandoned.
  • The league introduces new uniforms for all 11 teams featuring increased protection for players.
  • After Mike Patcek retires, the Calgary Bulls sign goaltender Mark Davis to a 5-year contract.
  • Rage superstar Derek Eyepatch suffers a career-ending cuncussion just 4 games into the season after taking a devastating hit from Comets' rookie defenseman Colin Blake.
  • After much speculation that he would retire, Joe Murdock finally returns to the Freezers in January.
  • Boston Blazers forward Kyle Anderson is suspended 6 games for sucker-punching Flames goaltender Scott Moroson.
  • The Halifax Giants miss the playoffs for the first time in their history.
  • Despite a breakout season from Justin Gray, the Blazers miss the playoffs for the 4th straight year. 
  • The Bulls, Killer Whales, and Warriors are back in the post-season after missing it in 2007
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Freezers face the Comets for the 5th straight year, beating them in 4 straight games.
  • Also in the first round, the Mets require the full 7 games to knock off the Flames, the Wilderness defeat the Warriors in 6 games, while the Bulls defeat the Killer Whales in a nasty 6-game series.
  • In the second round, the Freezers defeat the defending champion Mets in a tough 7-game series, while the Bulls upset the Wilderness in 5 games.
  • The Freezers and Bulls each win 2 games at home, bringing the finals to a 2-2 tie.
  • After the Freezers win the pivotal game 5 at home, Sean MacDonald's overtime goal in game 6 gives the Freezers their second Lego Cup and their first since 2003.

2006-07 Season Highlights



  • After four seasons apart, the SHL and LHL are finally reunited as an agreement is reached to merge the two leagues back together.
  • The league is set up with three divisions, the SHL Division, the LHL East Division, and the LHL West Division. The top team in each division will make the playoffs as well as three "wildcard" teams.
  • The Chicago Mets and the Philadelphia Flames both adjust to the new league with ease, finishing near the top of the standings.
  • Several veteran LHLers including the Warriors' Joni Kita and the Comets' Braydon McPhearson make controversial comments about the supposedly smaller and less physical SHL teams.
  • In December, the two greatest players in the league, Vincent Domphoots and Joe Murdock, fight eachother for the first time ever.
  • Another legendary tilt takes place in February when the Halifax Giants visit the Toronto Freezers as Sean MacDonald and Gary Johnson battle for over 3 minutes.
  • An ugly incident occurs in March when Joni Kita cross-checks Joe Murdock in the head, giving him a concussion that would eventually threaten his career.
  • The Chicago Mets, Dallas Wilderness, and Toronto Freezers win their divisions, while the New York Comets, Halifax Giants, and Philadelphia Flames take the wildcard positions. The Mets and Wilderness each earn a first-round bye as the league's top teams.
  • The Montreal Warriors miss the playoffs for the first time in their history just one year after winning the Lego Cup. the Bulls, Killer Whales, Blazers, and Rage also miss the playoffs.
  • In the first round the Mets easily handle the Flames in 5, while the Freezers need 7 games to dispatch the surprising Comets.
  • In the Semifinals, the Mets win a tough 7-games series against the Giants.
  • Joe Murdock takes a hard hit in the Comets series and is forced to sit out the Freezers semifinal series against the Wilderness with concussion-like symptoms.
  • The Wilderness sweep the Murdock-less Freezers in 4 straight.
  • In the finals, the Wilderness quickly take a 3-1 series lead.
  • The Mets play desperate hockey in games 5 & 6 to force the series to game 7.
  • In game 7 in Dallas, Mets forward Ben Orlick stuns the Wilderness in overtime to give the Mets their first Lego Cup.

2005-06 Season Highlights

Jamie Moore and the Wilderness enjoyed a breakout year in 2006

  • After 15 seasons with Toronto, Randy Fernandez signs with the Dallas Wilderness.
  • Scott Moroson recovers from his leg injury and re-joins the Philadelphia Flames in the SHL after one season in New York.
  • Despite scoring a career-low 31 goals, Joe Murdock still wins the scoring crown.
  • Montreal's Joni Kita is suspended 5 games for a vicious slash to the head of the Comets' Teppo Sikkanen.
  • Warriors' rookie Brad Wyley comes out of nowhere to score 30 goals and 71 points and finish second in league scoring.
  • The Boston Blazers once again finish dead last in the league, missing the playoffs.
  • The Freezers finish off another strong season, taking 2nd place overall and earning a first-round bye.
  • The Warriors finish 1st overall for the second straight season, earning a first-round bye.
  • The Bulls, a year after reaching the Lego Cup Finals, finish 3rd overall in the league standings.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the defending champion Comets sweep the Vancouver Killer Whales in 4 straight, while the Dallas Wilderness upset the Calgary Bulls in 6.
  • In the semifinals, the Wilderness give the Warriors all they can handle before the Warriors win game 7, while the Freezers also have a tough time dispatching the Comets in 7.
  • In the finals, the Freezers never get into the series as the Warriors take the Lego Cup in 5 games. Former Freezer Sergei Zeebov scores the overtime winner for the Warriors in game 5, then retires.

2004-05 Season Highlights

Buenos Frederno scores the Lego Cup OT winner in game 7.

  • The LA Ocean are sold and re-located north as the Vancouver Killer Whales.
  • Early in the year the defending champion Blazers struggle, ending the first half in last place.
  • With extra help from rookie Nathan Barker, Joe Murdock turns in his best season yet, scoring 60 goals in 30 games.
  • In January, Comets goaltender Scott Moroson breaks his leg in a game against the Blazers, ending his season. He is replaced by rookie Daniel Boivre.
  • An early January contest between the Blazers and Warriors gets ugly when a full-scale bench-clearing brawl breaks out.
  • The Dallas Wilderness finish atop the West Division, while the Montreal Warriors win the East. Both teams earn first round byes.
  • In the first round of the playoffs, the Comets upset the Freezers for the second year in a row thanks to brilliant goaltending from Dany Boivre, while the Bulls defeat the Killer Whales in 6.
  • In the Division Finals, the Comets continue their impressive run, eliminating the Warriors in 7 games, while the Bulls upset the Wilderness in 7 games.
  • The Bulls takes a 3-1 lead in the finals against New York before the Comets storm back in games 5 and 6 to force game 7.
  • Veteran forward Randy McAllen scores the overtime winner for the Comets in game 7, giving the Comets their first Lego Cup in only their second season. They are the fastest expansion franchise ever to win a Lego Cup.
